The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is a visionary project that aims to transform Malaysia’s transportation landscape, connecting the vibrant East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang with the bustling Greater Klang Valley region. This groundbreaking railway system will unite state capitals, key urban centres, industrial hubs, ports, airports, and tourism zones, while integrating with existing railway networks across Peninsular Malaysia.

A Catalyst For Progress

The ECRL project will change the economic dynamic of the West and East Coast by offering more accessibility to urbanised markets healthcare, education, and other essential services, while businesses in the West can more easily tap into the abundant natural resources and labour forces of the East. Furthermore, ECRL promotes balanced regional development by attracting foreign and local investments to the East Coast and bringing social progress  to unlock the full potential of Malaysia’s economy.

Local Participation

ECRL has collaborated with relevant state governments to provide additional platforms for local contractors to participate in the ECRL project. With recommendation from TERAJU, the appointment of Bumiputera contractors from grades G1-G3 categories for relevant scope works will be carried out via workable approach within the Respective States and with the cooperation of Respective State’s Authorities and/or related Associations and Government Bodies. A Special Committee for the Participation of Local and Bumiputera contractors of the ECRL project was established and chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport to ensure effective participation of qualified local companies in the ECRL project, as well as a forum in highlighting and addressing issues related to local participation.

Pioneering A Sustainable Infrastructure

The ECRL project traverses through diverse landscapes, including hilly terrain and dense forests. It hosts a dedicated project team aiming to improve the rail alignment and design in order to reduce environmental and wildlife impacts, while ensuring the project brings the best possible development benefits to the local communities.
